Visit to the Sunken ship Thursday the 15th of January at 2.00 p.m.
The Kyrenia Ship In 1965, a shipwreck was discovered by a sponge diver approximately 2km northwest of Girne/Kyrenia. During the following 4 years the wreck was re-located and subsequently explored, revealing a 2000-year-old historic find which gave archeologists a unique picture of the seafaring culture around the time of Alexander The Great. During the summers of 1968 & 1969, the wreck’s hull, and remains of its cargo, were painstakingly raised from the seabed by a team of underwater archaeologists, students and technicians and housed at the Ancient Shipwreck Museum in Kyrenia Castle, where they remain on exhibit.
