Visit to the Sunken ship Thursday the 15th of January at 2.00 p.m.
The Kyrenia Ship In 1965, a shipwreck was discovered by a sponge diver approximately 2km northwest of Girne/Kyrenia. During the following 4 years the wreck was re-located and subsequently explored, revealing a 2000-year-old historic find which gave archeologists a unique picture of the seafaring culture around the time of Alexander The Great. During the summers of 1968 & 1969, the wreck’s hull, and remains of its cargo, were painstakingly raised from the seabed by a team of underwater archaeologists, students and technicians and housed at the Ancient Shipwreck Museum in Kyrenia Castle, where they remain on exhibit. YOUR ATA NEEDS YOU! The ATA is a totally voluntary organisation benefitting local good causes. It thrives because of the work our volunteers do. If you enjoy the visits, talks, walks, social meals and discounts we need your help. Currently, we need someone to learn to use SendPulse mail to send out bulk emails. (Tim says it is simple!)
