Report of the 26th AGM – February 1st 2014

The 26th Annual General Meeting of the Anglo Turkish Association was held at Club Z in Girne on February 1st 2014.

Forty-four members attended the meeting which was opened by the current Chairman, Işık Muhtaroğlu. She welcomed everyone especially Honorary Vice Presidents Harry Fellows and Gülter Kuran, who then took the chair.

Those present were updated on the work of the Association’s Executive Committee throughout the previous year, the Events and Projects undertaken and plans for the coming year.

The Association’s funds were described as ‘healthy’, though members should note that commitments for the past year’s projects had not yet been paid out.

The previous Committee was re-elected en bloc and brought up to strength with the addition of new members Akgün Derviş, Gökçen Buba and Şenay Onurhan.

Two issues were brought to the attention of the members present:

  • The listing and eventual disposal of some items of the Association’s assets which are no longer needed.
  • The proposed raising of membership fees in 2015

A lively exchange followed the latter issue, which later led to the meeting being described as ‘the liveliest AGM for some time’.

A list of Events for 2014 was attached to the documents sent out by emaıl to all members. This reflects a varied choice of activities. By request, some of these are re-runs of previous popular events. However, as always, we strive to bring you a varied programme and look forward to your continuing support throughout the coming year.

Your ‘new look’ website is now up and running, but work is still ongoing on it. Hopefully, you will find it easier to navigate and it will be updated more regularly, a problem we have suffered with in the past. So please visit it to see what’s new and what’s coming up.

STAY INFORMED about your Association.
